Social Networking explores youth as spectacle - reminiscent of beauty pageants, spelling bees, youth dance competitions and talent shows. Past accomplishments are shared and present concerns and struggles are revealed. The performers simultaneously reject, yet embody, superficial tendencies, to discover an ever-present duality among themselves. Social Networking was made possible, in part, through the Movement Research Artist Residency Project, funded, in part, by the Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund. Premiered at Starr Street Projects (Bushwick, Brooklyn) May 2007, with work-in-progress showings at Movement Research at Judson Church.
